What is Bootstrap?

By Plamena, Project Manager at Flat Rock

If you are interested in web development, I`m sure you have heard of Bootstrap. But do you really know what it means?

Bootstrap is one of the most popular Front end frameworks for developing responsive web applications.

It is a combination of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code designed to help Front end developers build amazing websites. It contains design templates for typography, forms, buttons, navigation and other interface components which allow developers easily and efficiently to scale websites from phones to tablets to desktops.

Originally created by a designer and a developer at Twitter, the framework has outgrown its creators and has become one of the most popular Front end frameworks in the world.

Part of the beauty of the framework is that it is free. Bootstrap is open source and available on GitHub. Developers are encouraged to make their own contributions to the platform which improves it with every new update.

But that`s not all. Bootstrap is compatible with the latest versions of almost every modern web and mobile browser.

So you can see that there is more than one reason, developers from all over the world to prefer Bootstrap:

→ Free and easy to get started

→ Scalable

→ Great grid system

→ Base styling for most HTML elements (Typography, Code, Tables, Forms, Buttons, Images, Icons)

→ Extensive list of components

→ Bundled JavaScript plugins

→ Browser support
